Amy Reitzel is the owner of Amy's Wagon Wheel Creations. A life long quilter, she's had a small business creating quilt patterns for years. While she had her own domain, it was redirected to her profile / list of patterns for sale on a wholesaler's website and not her own. We worked together to create a brand new website. I'll showcase a few things I helped Amy with below.
Highlights of Project:
As can often happen, the font used to create the original logo (left) was unknown and I wanted to be able to use the same font for styling accents on the website. This combined with the fact that a brand new website is the perfect time to refresh a company's branding, we decided to redesign the logo. With a few iterations and feedback from Amy, the new logo (right) was created.
I’m a big fan of WordPress for all kinds of reasons. It started out as a platform for blogs but has blossomed into a very robust content management system (CMS) used to create over 25% of the all the websites on the internet today. That means, there are hundreds of thousands of people using and creating a variety of resources, both free and paid / premium versions, for small business owners like myself and Amy to utilize on our own websites. With it, not only was I able to include features on this project like several different contact forms, social media integrations, and the lay the groundwork for eCommerce functionality (more on that next), but Amy will be able to maintain and expand her own site with a little training. That way, the content on her site stays current and relevant to customers (and search engines!).
While Amy wasn’t ready to start selling via her website right away, I knew that this was the eventual goal, so the right way to implement creating a catalog of her patterns, was to do so in a way that eCommerce could easily be enabled at a later date. By using WooCommerce (a WordPress plugin) as the foundation for organizing her physical (and eventually digital) product lines, the infrastructure is in place to facilitate not only turning on these features at any time, but also to integrate with other plugins to help manage her business as it scales.
